I know it’s easy to just buy a bottle of barbecue sauce at the grocery store, but homemade has a much more vibrant flavor. Using only five basic ingredients, you can have this sauce ready in less than 15 minutes. It’s so worth it!
I suggest brushing on the barbecue sauce to the food during the last 10 minutes of cooking so it does not burn.
Tangy Barbecue Sauce Recipe
1 cup ketchup
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar or cider vinegar
1/3 cup light-colored corn syrup
1/4 cup finely chopped onion or thinly sliced green onions (scallions)
1/4 teaspoon salt
Several dashes hot pepper sauce
In a small saucepan combine the ketchup, balsamic vinegar, corn syrup, onion, salt, and hot pepper sauce. Bring to boil; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, for 10 to 15 minutes or until desired consistency, stirring sauce occasionally.
Brush burgers, chicken or pork with some of the sauce during the last 10 minutes of grilling. If desired, reserve some sauce for passing at the table.
